Dear Friends,
Making a commitment is a scary prospect for many of us — whether in romance, finance, or with respect to our relationship with the Savior. We’d like to slide through life easily, with few struggles and fewer difficulties, the wind always at our backs. Truth is, without making commitments, we will languish in the doldrums of mediocrity forever. When we married, it was because we did not want to simply “live” with someone; we wanted life-long commitment and love, and we took the necessary steps to secure those.
On Sunday, January 29, 2012, each one of us who has been seeking the Lord over recent weeks, will come together to say, “Yes!” to the Lord and to each other.
We will also gather around Timber Leech, as this week he will leave for the Sendai area of Japan to be a much-needed volunteer with Samaritan’s Purse, in the reconstruction of the area devastated by the March 11, 2011 tsunami and earthquake. For those of you who live far away from the Cape, please remember to pray for Tim’s safety and for his ministry in Japan.
Also, Dereck and Lea Plante are in Kompong Thom, Cambodia, teaching English to the people, and sharing the love of God, while on the outreach phase of their discipleship school. Please be praying for God to use them to make a positive impact for Jesus.
These are people who are answering and discovering God’s call on their lives, taking risks, seeking to be obedient to God’s invitation to follow Him into the world. They are examples to us of what it means to be a Christian wherever we are located.

One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” — Matthew 22:35-37
I wrote a love letter to God this week. Here’s an excerpt:
“When all is quiet and I can be myself, I know that all I really want is to be with you, to be all yours. I know I don’t deserve all the love and care you lavish on me, but it doesn’t matter. You accept who I am and help me to grow ever better and stronger.
“All those years I spent looking — even after I first met you and knew, deep down, that you were The One — you stood by me. When everything fell apart, you picked me up. Over and over again, you were there — no matter how far I strayed and what shameful things I did while I was away from you, you took me back without even a scolding. Your love and kindness were reprimand enough.
“I’m back out in the world today, busy with work and theater and life in general. I want to carry you with me to keep my heart open to those around me — as open as yours has been to me. I can never love or serve you enough to thank you for what you’ve done for me. I need nothing but you.”
In His Precious Name,
Laura
