About Us

Here are some Q and A's that we hope will help you understand the culture of our church.

What kinds of people are welcome at Pocasset Baptist Church?

Short answer: All kinds of people. Our church has welcomed people from many different backgrounds: people who seem to be fairly 'together'… folks struggling with alcohol and drug addictions… people emerging from broken relationships, and others just out of prison.

What are worship services like at Pocasset Baptist Church?

Our services are informally structured and last about 90 minutes. You are welcome to come to our church dressed casually. Suits and neckties are rare!

We spend about a half hour in worship: singing, praising, praying, and seeking God. Sometimes there are quiet moments, and at other times people will be fairly expressive. The music is both contemporary (written within the last twenty years) and traditional (such as hymns). Our Worship Team tries to play music that encourages worshipers to enter into personal and corporate worship, to engage the heart and the mind in worship of God.

We also encourage participation by the congregation.  People are free to share what God is doing in their lives, and to seek prayer for personal needs.

What is the preaching like?

The morning messages are usually based on a book of the Bible that we are studying. During 2007, we studied the Gospel of Luke, chapters 4 - 9, and also Paul's Second Epistle to Timothy.  Beginning in February of 2008, we have returned to a study of the Gospel of Luke, beginning in chapter 10.  Pastor Ed’s messages focus on bringing to light eternal truths that can be applied to our lives.

Several members of our church are quite capable of preaching, and from time to time, they share their ministry gifts on Sunday mornings.

What do you do for fellowship?

At least once each month, we will have a coffee hour or a special luncheon after the worship service when people who would like to linger for fellowship are encouraged to remain and enjoy food, coffee, and goodies.  Periodically throughout the year, we make a point to celebrate our life together with what we call 'Pot Trust' dinners after worship on Sundays.

How do you keep in touch?

Each week, we publish our Safe Harbor Newsletter, that is sent to an email list that spans the globe.  The newsletter will keep you up-to-date with what's happening in our fellowship.  Would you like to subscribe and be on our email list?  Send your request to pastor@pocassetbaptist.org

As a Safe Harbor, Pocasset Baptist Church is about people finding wholeness in Jesus and then finding each other, just like Linda and Ben:
