Dear Friends,
Spring forward this weekend as Daylight Saving Time arrives! You can be on time for worship on Sunday — we start at 10:00 A.M. — if you set your clock ahead one hour before you go to bed on Saturday.
One day not long ago, a church member shared with me that she had enjoyed reading the Psalms and wondered why we couldn’t read from the Psalms during our Sunday worship. I had to let her know that we begin worship with a Psalm every Sunday. If she had ever arrived on time, she would not only have known that, but also would have been blessed by having a part in the public reading of God’s Word. So, may I say, it would be such an encouragement if you would make the effort to arrive on time for the start of worship.
This Sunday marks the first anniversary of the triple disasters that struck Japan. We will welcome Timber Leech home from his annual mission trip. This year he served with Samaritan’s Purse in the Tohoku region of Japan, helping Japanese families reclaim and rebuild their earthquake and tsunami-damaged homes. Tim will share, show pictures, and give us a report as to how the Lord is working in the area. We’ll pray for those who serve in Japan (Roberta Peabody, Stan and Faith De La Cour) and for the families who are being introduced to Jesus as a result of the way the Church has responded to the tragedy.

You and I well know that there are all sorts of impediments to our making and living a fully committed and wholly dedicated life. Sometimes our culture inhibits our forward progress. At other times, our worldly companions and friends make us feel odd so we allow the Lord to take a back seat. But usually, the greatest impediment is ourselves. That there are impediments is only normal. After all, Jesus made the Christian life a lot scarier when He declared that if someone wanted to follow Him, he would “take up his cross daily and follow Me.” There is no evidence anywhere in scripture that Jesus backed away from that statement. Now what will we do? This Sunday, we are going to read a few verses further from where we were last week, Luke 9:18-27, and we’ll think about how we will deal with the impediments to following Jesus in a message entitled “Cross Walk.”

They will be presented during a service before Easter, if possible. Please email Laura Garner at mysterywench@gmail.com, or call her at 508 759-0335.

Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen. — I Peter 4:10-11
What a wonderful truth: if we offer every moment of our lives up to God in prayer, he will speak and act through us.
I don’t think this Scripture just applies to speaking or serving with other Christians. I believe it applies to everywhere we go — work, the store, home, the movie theater, everywhere. We can show the love of Jesus in our joy and contentment, with a kind word or cup of coffee, even with something as small as a smile. We can pray for people without even knowing them or what they’re going through, if we keep ourselves open to God’s prompting.
In His Precious Name,
Laura
